Privacy Policy

MIoT Log Inspector is a local-first Chrome extension for inspecting MIoT device logs. We do not collect, upload, sell, or share your log data.

1. Scope

This policy applies to the MIoT Log Inspector Chrome extension (the “Extension”). It helps developers inspect, search, highlight, and copy MIoT device logs on https://*.iot.mi.com/* pages.

This policy does not cover the Xiaomi IoT Developer Platform itself. Your use of that platform remains subject to its own terms and privacy policy.

2. Information the Extension accesses

When you open or refresh the side panel, the Extension may locally access:

  • Log timestamps, original message types, and JSON log content;
  • Device identifiers, properties, events, actions, and errors contained in those logs;
  • The active tab URL, solely to confirm that the page is an allowed MIoT domain.

Access is not collection. This information is processed in your browser and is never sent to the developer or a remote service.

3. How information is used

The Extension uses locally accessed information only to:

  • Display the log list and structured JSON details;
  • Search and highlight text, properties, and action identifiers;
  • Locate and highlight the corresponding row on the source page;
  • Write selected logs to your clipboard after you explicitly click a copy action.

Log information is not used for advertising, profiling, credit decisions, automated decision-making, or any purpose unrelated to the Extension’s single-purpose log inspection functionality.

4. Chrome permissions

The Extension requests only the access needed for its core functionality.

sidePanel

Provides the log inspection interface in Chrome’s side panel.

scripting

Reads the visible log table and locates a selected source row.

https://*.iot.mi.com/*

Limits site access to the Xiaomi IoT root domain and its HTTPS subdomains.

Clipboard API

Writes selected logs only after a copy action; no extra Chrome permission is declared.

5. Storage, retention, and sharing

Logs remain only in the current side-panel session’s memory and are cleared when the panel is closed or reloaded. The Extension does not use Chrome Storage, Local Storage, IndexedDB, cookies, or a remote database to retain logs.

We do not sell, rent, or share log data, device information, or browsing activity. The Extension includes no analytics SDK, advertising SDK, telemetry, or crash-reporting service.

This policy page is hosted by GitHub Pages. GitHub may process ordinary website access data under its own privacy statement. That hosting activity is separate from the Extension.

6. Security and your choices

The Extension reduces exposure through limited host access, local processing, and minimal permissions. Because debug logs can contain device identifiers or sensitive diagnostic details, review and redact copied logs before sharing them.

You can disable or uninstall the Extension, or revoke its site access, at any time from Chrome’s extension settings.

7. Changes to this policy

If the Extension’s data practices or permission uses materially change, this page will be updated with a new effective date. Material changes may also be described in the Extension’s release notes.
